The Passionate Programmer by Chad Fowler

I’m reading The Passionate Programmer by Chad Fowler (see in my book store below).

It is a fantastic book for anybody who’s been obsessed by computer programming but never had much luck turning this knowledge into cash…

While reading one could get the feeling time to time that the book is way too commerce, but hey that is exactly what it’s supposed to be. :)

I don’t think this book will give you – as one would expect, a detailed explanation about how to build a successful business. It is not a step by step guide to triumph… What it does however is steers your mind towards the right way of thinking in terms of this industry. I think it is definitely worth the time. I think I have learned a lot!

Challenging IT task ahead?

Top developers at your service

We are all facing challenges day by day. What seems to be irresolvable at first sight could be quickly turned into a simple task with a little help…

We are all trying to solve our problems in different ways. There are those who do not abandon their keyboards until they found a solution even if it takes “no food, no sleep” for days, and those who are not ashamed to ask for help and get to the solution quicker.

There is nothing wrong with dedication, however, strangling deadlines could spoil the fun and we might need something or someone who at least points to the right direction…

I truly believe nobody could dream of better tuition and support than having the most accomplished brains of the industry by their side feeding their brain with ideas funded by enormous experience.

Stack Overflow can provide you with this and even more…
You could become a tutor yourself and earn reputation by helping people finding an answer to their mysterious, seemingly irresolvable problems.

If you happen to be just an “ordinary human” and have no clue about this language these techies speak, it could still help you to find someone who is skilled and experienced enough to do the job for you.

I’m in. If you are a techie or someone looking for answers – shouldn’t you be?

Why WordPress?

Well, the answer is simple. These guys have work so hard to create a CMS that ticks all the boxes and you know what, they did it!

The simplicity of setting up a new website is incredible. If you have a little bitty design skills and clue about basic HTML you can set up a site literally in minutes.

If you can’t be bothered with design or you don’t need customization, you can choose from hundreds of free designs or buy one off the shelf from dozens of websites. You can download extend your WordPress site with a large number of plug-ins stretching various new features from Amazon to Google.

If you are bit more familiar with coding and design you could build your own template and develop new plug-ins best suited your needs. There are loads of documentation about how to do these and if it is not the first time you saw PHP code, I would say, you will have fun doing it.

Some people claim that WordPress is unreliable, however I think it is just the fact that WordPress does evolve quite rapidly that could sometimes lead to incompatibility issues. If your plug-ins are older and may have not been updated to work with the newer version of WordPress the plug-in could malfunction sometimes – although this very rarely happens. To prevent this, carefully examine if your plug-ins support the version number that you are about to install and also check your site thoroughly after an upgrade. If you notice any problems you can try to revert back to the previous state or contact the author of the plug-in who is very likely to help with your problem.

To cut the long story short, I have been in this industry for over a decade and I have been following the journey of WordPress for quite a while. I must say that I think WordPress has never been more sophisticated. The community has undeniably given a brilliant tool to people who want to get on the web quickly and professionally.
